Kicking off C4C’s Mobile Computer Literacy Lab (MCLL)

Kicking off C4C’s Mobile Computer Literacy Lab (MCLL)

10 top-of-the-line Amilo Pro notebook computers, donated by Fujitsu Technology Solutions s.r.o., help C4C to get their much anticipated Mobile Computer Literacy Lab off the ground.

Beginning after the summer break, C4C’s Springboard to Life program (STL), providing vocational training for disabled and socially marginalized children, has extended its reach to include a computer literacy program into its roster of topics being taught. (Learn more about STL here)

“It’s a bit of a dream come true”, says Lech Nawara, C4C’s director of education and development, who is in charge of overseeing the STL program. “ The MCLL’s launch had been delayed by the current economic crunch, but we’re thrilled to have it up and running by autumn, in spite of set-backs encountered along the way.”

Originally planned on a larger scale, using a truck-based classroom as a mobile school (see case-study below), the program was scaled back due to new realities imposed by the ongoing economic  downturn and a subsequent cut-back of funding for the ambitious project.

We’re happy to be able to go forward with the MCLL now, even though in a slightly altered form, without the truck”, comments Manfred Franke, C4C’s founder and current chairman. “The program holds great promise and will enable countless orphans to acquire the computer skills necessary to enter into the job market with a marked advantage.”

Instead of a truck, the team will utilize a new Ford Transit van sponsored by Prague’s own Rotary Club Bohemia and realized in conjunction with Komersia West s.r.o., both long time and faithful supporters of C4C.  The van will transport the teacher and equipment to the participating orphanages and, if teaching facilities are not available there, take the children to a pre-arranged nearby classroom setting.

The Fujitsu Amilo Pro notebook computers feature cutting-edge technology, delivered on a modern and fast Intel Core 2 Duo platform. Equipped with WiFi, webcameras and every other conceivable option they’ll provide the teachers with an ideal platform to teach everything there is to learn on a computer, from basic computer literacy to advances studies, office applications, web-design, e-business and graphic design. Diplomas of accomplishment will be issued to all students completing the course.

“In terms of investment, I feel safe to have invested into a very worthy cause by donating these computers to Manfred and his team”, says Tomas Rutrle, Managing Director of Fujitsu Technology Solutions. “We’re happy and proud to be able to contribute to the success of the MCLL and know that the computer training received will make a difference in the lives of the participating orphans and help them to live up to their full potential in life.”
