C4C Computer Literacy Initiative Kicking Into High Gear:

Lech Nawara and the new arrivals to STL program: 100 portable computers!

C4C’s Springboard to Life program receives over 100 mobile computer workstations for its Computer Literacy initiative, teaching computer skills to socially and physically disadvantaged children.

Generously donated by the Vodafone Foundation and Fujitsu Technology Solutions toward C4C’s efforts to help socially marginalized children integrate successfully into society, the recent arrival of more than 100 highly mobile computers provides a far-reaching boost to C4C’s Springboard to Life program.

“With over 100 mobile computer workstations up and running, we can help hundreds of kids with a social handicap receive accreditation for their learning, ultimately paving the way for them to find employment and lead a successful life”, explains Lech Nawara, C4C’s educational director and manager of the Springboard to Life initiative.

Some of the workstations will be installed in especially designated computer rooms in institutions with resident children; others will be used by C4C’s team of roving teachers as they visit institutions in far flung places.

“The mobility of the computers is ideal for our traveling teachers, as they can transport them easily to teach children in several locations, expanding the total reach of the program tremendously”, comments Lech, demonstrating the ease of transport by lifting one of the workstations with just one hand. Flatscreens and mini-computers, running at processor speeds of close to 3 Ghz, form just one easy to handle unit – an ideal configuration for C4C’s purposes!

It is the express aim of the Springboard to Life (STL) program to teach a broad spectrum of supplemental vocational skills to disabled, institutionalized and socially disadvantaged children as a springboard to a successful adult life and a problem-free integration into society. Read more about it here.

Besides computer literacy courses, the STL team also teaches foreign languages, household sciences, hair cutting and styling, creative music and advanced baking classes to make the playing field of life a little more level for socially marginalized children, giving them a chance to succeed in life.

A special and heart-felt “Thank You” goes to C4C’s two other main partners of the STL initiative: the Rotary Club Prague Bohemia and Copy General s.r.o., who both make tremendous and much appreciated contributions toward the sustainability of this important educational initiative.
